Overview:

The Department of Mathematics is the oldest Honours Department in science faculty of the college. The Department started its humble beginning in the year 1949, when it was in intermediate science level. B.Sc. Pass course level teaching was started on 1958. Affiliation in Mathematics Honours course to this Department was obtained from University of Calcutta in the session 1961-1962.

After the foundation of Vidyasagar University in 1985, the college with its present status was transferred to the jurisdiction of Vidyasagar University in 1985 by a notification of the Government of West Bengal.

Since the inception of the Department in 1949, it has been gradually enriched and its quality has been enhanced over nearly seven decades by a galaxy of eminent teachers. Consequently, enthusiastic learners not only from different areas of Midnapur district but also from the neighbouring Howrah district and South 24-Parganas used to come here in quest of higher education in Mathematics.

At present the Dept. is run by three teachers Dr. S. Khanra, Dr. C. B. Das and Sri M. Mandal and two approved Part time teachers Sri N. C. Sasmal and Sri K.P. Samanta and two guest teachers Sri C. Pathak and Sri K. Maiti. All teachers are trying to maintain the glorious tradition of the Dept. with their sincerity and dedication to their task, as a result of which they can produce university toppers and their students can secure their position in national level tests easily. A matter of pride to mention that a number of students has secured IIT entrance and M.Sc. entrance in various University in India. Some students are carrying their research work in different field of Mathematics in IIT and Universities.

Facilities Offered

FACILITIES PROVIDED TO THE STUDENTS

Regular class test .
Departmental Library: A few Seminal books are available for the students inside the department.
A moderate computer Laboratory.
The low scoring candidates are given special attention and group discussions are arranged for them.
Special training on practical viva-voice is given to the Part-III University Examinees.
The faculty members regularly interact with the students and solve problems faced by them. Also, guardians of the students are free to meet with faculty members if needed.
The department conducts tutorial classes regularly for Part-I & Part-II and Part-III students.
The teachers organize voluntary coaching for M.Sc. Entrance in IIT (JAM-exam) and Various Universities.
The faculty members always encourage the student for betterment of their future and they counsel 3rd year student individually to suggest for their target after B.Sc. Exam career-building.
